Navigating the Transition During the teenage years, a young woman embarks on a transformative journey as her body undergoes rapid changes. Puberty sets in, marked by the onset of menstruation, breast development, & the widening of hips. Emotionally, adolescence can be characterized by a search for identity, self-discovery, & heightened sensitivity. Mental & cognitive abilities evolve, & girls often experience a surge in creativity & self-expression.
When a young girl attains puberty, several medical conditions & changes can occur. Here are some of the common ones:
Menstrual Irregularities:
During puberty initially, periods may be irregular, infrequent, or heavy. This is usually normal in the first few years after menarche (the onset of menstruation).
Acne:
Hormonal changes during puberty can cause the sebaceous glands in the skin to produce more oil, leading to the development of acne.
Breast development:
Girls undergo breast development during puberty as a result of hormonal changes. It is normal for one breast to develop before the other, & there may be some tenderness or discomfort during this process.
Emotional & psychological changes:
Mood swings, increased self-consciousness, & a range of emotions are common during puberty.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS):
Some girls may experience premenstrual symptoms such as mood swings, bloating, breast tenderness, & mild abdominal cramps before their periods.
Dysmenorrhea:
Painful menstrual cramps, known as dysmenorrhea, can occur during menstruation.
Emotional & behavioral challenges:
During puberty they may experience increased self-consciousness, body image concerns, & changes in social relationships.
